Nordby Design Architecture & Interiors was founded in 2002 by Jon Nordby after three years as VP of Milestone Development in Hillsboro, Oregon. Jon’s main focus was Architectural design. His mission was to help his clients' projects become more successful than envisioned. In 2005 Nordby Design Architecture & Interiors decided to incorporate interior design lead by award winning designer Julie Nordby.
With over 40 years of combined experience from commercial to residential, there is no project that is too far out of reach.
Jon was born in Eugene, Oregon and has lived in Oregon his entire life. He attended & graduated from the University of Oregon in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in Architecture. He has more than 30 years of experience ranging from commercial projects such as hotels, restaurants, schools, churches, mall food courts, offices, high tech projects as well as high end residential designs.
Jon's award-winning designs reflect both innovative and careful attention to his clients' desires and lifestyle needs. Serving as Vice President of Milestone Development for three years gave Jon a unique skill set as not only a designer, but also as a specialist managing budget and consultant work. He provides phenomenal design services by utilizing his years of varied project experience and exceptional insight, creativity and customer service to each and every project. Often collaborating with his partner Julie, the pair create functional and stunning projects from conception to finish.
Head of Interiors
Julie was born in Heidelberg, Germany while her father was in the Army. Her family then moved to San Jose California, where she lived until she moved to Oregon as a teenager. Julie is an award winning designer who brings integrity, creativity, professionalism, and value to each and every project. Connecting to her early international childhood, she travels regularly to furniture & accessory markets in various regions across the globe. She derives inspiration from her time visiting these design hubs, and understands the importance of staying ahead of the latest trends in interiors.
Her travels keep her knowledge of architectural details sharp and broadens her knowledge of visual enhancements for spaces. Julie's project and travel experience has grounded her ability to take on any and all challenges. No project is out of her comfort zone and she is constantly pushing her clients' designs to the next level of innovation.
As a graduate of Portland State University, Ryan brings 22 years of experience in the Architectural/ Engineering field to Nordby Design as a Drafter, 3d Modeler, Animator and all around tech-guy. Over his career his experience has included large projects in the educational, commercial and military fields.
Ryan enjoys traveling, playing drums and soccer. He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians and the Portland Timbers Army. Go Timbers!
Assistant Interior Designer
Danette grew up in the Pacific Northwest and graduated with a bachelors degree in arts at the University of Western Washington. After graduating, her love for travel led to a summer living abroad in Italy. Her experience in Italy exposed her to a world rich in history, beautiful landscapes, amazing architecture and design.
On her days off you can find her expoloring our wine region with friends, dabbling in photography, hiking around the Columbia Gorge, or being anywhere near the water. Her favorite part about design is working on the finishing touches to help peiple bring their personal style and vision to life.
Sarah finds her passion in drawing and designing built environments to meet the dreams of others. She graduated from Portland State University with a degree in Architecture. Her love for materials and structures also motivates her constant desire to learn about appropriate designs that provoke and appeal.
As a local commuter from Vancouver, Sarah is well acquainted with the culture of the Pacific Northwest and enjoys occasional nights out with friends and trips to the beach if she's not drawing at home or relaxing with a book. She also tries to find time to hike around the many trails near the Columbia River during Portland's summer months.
