Nordby Design was commissioned to design a versatile indoor/outdoor "Mancave" addition for a client's home. The design seamlessly incorporates an indoor living area with two outdoor spaces that are simply distinguished by visibly elegant glass thresholds. A built-in concrete seating wall and rustic kitchenette were added along CMU-lined interior walls and wood framing to give the indoor space an outdoor appeal. Full-length glass sliding doors also provide access to the spacious outdoor dining room. A new natural gas stone fire pit provides a great outdoor destination that can be approached from two flanking stone paths. The main level of the existing home connects to these two recreational spaces in the backyard by way of a newly renovated cedar deck and iron-railed stairs. Several trellis canopies were installed as final elements over main entries, the dining area, and back deck to accommodate for weathering from sun exposure and to ultimately unify all aspects of the design.
